David Walters
Global Director, USA
About
After two years at 2H’s London office, David relocated to the US in 1998 to establish the Houston office to meet the demands of Gulf of Mexico deepwater developments. His focus since then has been the development and growth of 2H, globally as a principal director and locally in Houston, where he remains jointly responsible for the management of the office along with Mike Campbell. He has detailed knowledge of steel catenary risers having been involved in projects like Chevron Tahiti, Jack St. Malo and LLOG Delta House. David is a Chartered Marine Engineer, holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from Surrey University, UK, and has over 24 years’ riser engineering experience.
Alex Rimmer
Director, UK

About
Alex joined 2H Offshore in 2004 and has been a UK Director since 2011, based in 2H’s London Office. He is jointly responsible for 2H’s European offices and engineering activities across the EMEA regions.
Alex is a Chartered Engineer with the IMechE and holds a first-class Master of Engineering degree from the University of Bath. He has over 20 years of project execution and management experience developed at 2H and in previous roles.
He is a recognised subject matter expert in dynamic subsea system analysis and engineering and provides technical oversight and consultancy to a broad range of deep and shallow water energy projects. He specialises in all types of drilling, completion and production riser systems, as well as platform well and subsea well systems. For the past 5 years, he has primarily been driving forward 2H UK's floating wind (coupled analysis, power cables, moorings and anchor piles) and CCUS well activities, but continues to support the projects in oil and gas as well.
He has been involved in many challenging and innovative offshore subsea and renewable developments. His energy sector highlights include BP’s Block 31 PSVM and Total’s Kaombo hybrid riser detailed designs, Total’s West of Shetland UK subsea development and many of Aker BP’s well platforms in Norway. Renewable energy highlights include support to industry initiatives with ORE Catapult on floating wind HV power cables, and several pioneering wave energy and floating wind platforms and developments.

Pedro Viana
Flexible Engineering Manager, Brazil

About
Pedro was the first employee hired by 2H in Brazil, in January 2004, after graduating from PUC-Rio (Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro). His mechanical engineering studies included 1 year at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, with a dual-country scholarship granted to the best Brazilian engineers. Over the years, Pedro spent various periods of up to 9 months working in projects in 2H US, MY and UK offices, having gathered experience in all major offshore O&G regions. He has been based in the 2H Woking office since 2014, is part of the Local Management Team and leads the global flexible riser business within 2H.
Pedro’s 19 years’ experience ranges from shallow to deepwater risers, from concept design, through to integrity management and life extension and encompasses in particular flexible, rigid and hybrid riser production systems. He has worked on some major 2H projects such as Petrobras P-52, P-55, Guará&Lula-NE, BP Block31 PSVM, BP Tortue, and Total Kaombo, and is a long term sponsor of comprehensive engineering support on Tullow TEN and Jubilee and consultant on various key flexible projects across the 2H globe. Pedro is also part of the API 17J&B (flexibles) Task Group and one of the individual work group leaders.
From concept to installation. Has worked in 2H offices in BR, US, MY and UK, having gathered experience in all major offshore O&G regions.

Independent, industry-leading riser designs
We leverage our many years of experience to quickly identify and design riser systems to suit our client’s often complex and interrelated project requirements. We have had key responsibility on many cutting-edge projects, working with a wide range of operators and installation contractors.
Being independent means we can engineer production system risers as the main contractor, sub-contractor, as part of an integrated project team or as a certification and verification agent (CVA).
Our experience in production risers includes almost every combination of vessel type, geographical location and riser type that have been implemented to date.
Steel catenary & lazy wave risers
We are constantly adapting and evolving our approach to free-hanging steel riser design and integration management as offshore developments move into deeper waters and harsher environments.
We have conducted hundreds of feasibility studies, detailed design, verification and life extension projects for free-hanging steel risers of all sizes, functions, vessel types and water depths. This extensive experience means that we can pinpoint just the right riser configuration for your project.
The STRIDE joint industry project was initiated and led by 2H in the 1990s and involved more than 20 companies. The groundbreaking project defined the key SCR design parameters such as touch-down point interaction, vortex-induced vibration and the effects of pipe reeling on girth weld fatigue.
Top tensioned risers
TTRs are one of the most challenging riser systems to engineer due to the many interfaces that need to be accommodated. Our TTR specialists understand the complexities involved, from the interaction between production, injection and drilling risers to minimizing the wellbay footprint and accommodating tensioners or aircans, jumpers and piping. We have the technical expertise and project management skills to design, procure, deliver and extend the life of the most complex TTR systems.
Our project experience includes dry tree production and surface BOP drilling riser systems for TLP, and spar production facilities. We have designed TTRs in a range of diameters, water depths and environments, including the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, West Africa, and Brazil and have significant experience managing specification, procurement and delivery of components and ancillary equipment for these systems.
Freestanding hybrid risers
2H has unrivalled industry experience in the engineering of cost-effective and reliable hybrid riser systems. We have detail designed most of the free-standing hybrid risers installed to date, totalling over 40. From the first tow-out hybrid riser for Girassol, to the Single Line Offset Riser (SLOR™ / SLHR) and complex pipe-in-pipe Concentric Offset Risers (COR / CLHR) used on the Kizomba, PSVM, and Kaombo fields. All the hybrid risers used today have followed the design approach of our pioneering systems, and many of our lead engineers from these projects are still ipart of our team today.
Working with different environments, FPSO mooring systems and operators has taught us to identify and understand the numerous intricacies and challenges posed by hybrid riser projects, meaning that we can reuse the best features to create the most suitable system for new developments.
Flexible risers
Flexible pipes are complex structures that require specialist engineering and a multi-disciplinary team to ensure an optimised design, careful manufacturing, reliable installation and operation, and long-term integrity.
From concept design to life extension, we work with all types of operators, EPCI contractors, and directly with OEM. Our collaborative approach has allowed us to gain in-depth knowledge and expertise that adds value to every flexible pipe and umbilical project. We have experience in all major offshore exploration regions, in shallow to ultradeep water, and with old and new pipe designs. We work with standard configurations but also have the expertise to developing new and novel configurations for both O&G and renewable energy projects.
Composite risers
Composite pipe is a new material technology that offers several advantages in offshore projects. Its improved fatigue and corrosion resistance and reduced cross-sectional weight compared to conventional steel pipe can help overcome technical challenges particularly in deeper water and harsh environments.
We have established good working relationships with the key composite pipe suppliers, but our independence means we focus on delivering the optimal technical and commercial solutions to our clients. Our experience covers a range of composite structures including thermoplastic composite pipe and composite un-bonded flexible pipe.
