About
After two years at 2H’s London office, David relocated to the US in 1998 to establish the Houston office to meet the demands of Gulf of Mexico deepwater developments. His focus since then has been the development and growth of 2H, globally as a principal director and locally in Houston, where he remains jointly responsible for the management of the office along with Mike Campbell. He has detailed knowledge of steel catenary risers having been involved in projects like Chevron Tahiti, Jack St. Malo and LLOG Delta House. David is a Chartered Marine Engineer, holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from Surrey University, UK, and has over 24 years’ riser engineering experience.
Experts in marine structural dynamics
Dynamic analysis of risers can present complex challenges. Our core strength is the ability to calculate and understand riser response and develop riser designs that perform optimally. We independently assess and simulate multiple scenarios to propose the most effective, commercially beneficial solutions. We have an unrivalled domain knowledge that ensures consideration of the practical aspects like materials, fabrication, delivery and installation of the system.
At the forefront of subsea riser design and technology
From our beginnings in the early 90’s, we have pioneered the development of many of the riser technologies still used today. From the STRIDE SCR JIP and the AMJIG drilling riser guidelines to the free-standing riser concept which has been installed on multiple projects, we have been identifying and developing configurations to meet evolving industry demands.
Innovation is in our DNA and we are continually driving R&D efforts and writing research papers to present our learnings to the industry. In recent years, we have been working with groups of operators through the 2H-led STREAM and Wellhead Fatigue joint industry projects to help optimize fatigue assessments to increase accuracy, reduce conservativism and ultimately enable safer and more efficient riser operations.
Extensive and diverse track record
We have delivered thousands of riser projects in our 30-year history for all types of risers in a variety of scenarios. The breadth of our experience allows us to quickly identify and develop riser systems to suit often complex and inter-related project requirements. We have managed many leading-edge projects in offshore regions around the globe, working with a wide range of operators, drilling and installation contractors.
Complete project lifecycle focus
We provide support at all phases of the project lifecycle and because of our wide-ranging track record have developed an engineering feedback loop to iterate and enhance design practices. Using real-life monitoring data and direct experience of operational response and integrity issues we ensure that we feed our knowledge back into new designs to optimise riser performance in the future.
