Principal Engineer (Flexible Risers) – Woking

We are seeking a Principal Engineer with extensive experience in flexible risers and umbilicals to join our team in Woking, UK, to manage a variety of flexible riser and umbilical projects and help develop our flexibles business.

The Role

As Principal Engineer with a focus on flexible risers and umbilicals, you will lead and manage multi-disciplinary project teams across a wide variety of flexible riser, umbilical and cable system projects. These may include design (concept to delivery management) and integrity management activities. You will take a leading role and develop strong working relationships with our engineering team and clients. You will be part of our global specialist resource pool and may be called upon to provide specialist support related to flexible risers and umbilicals to engineers, project managers and senior management from 2H offices worldwide. You will have joint responsibility to recruit, lead, support and develop engineers to deliver technical excellence across a wide variety of flexible riser projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for the right individual to build upon their existing technical capability and knowledge in flexible riser and umbilical engineering whilst helping to grow, shape and lead our flexible riser capability.

Requirements

  • 8-12 years of flexible riser, umbilical and flowline engineering and delivery management experience.
  • Sound understanding of flexible and umbilical product manufacturing processes, installation techniques, integrity management challenges and other design issues.
  • Comprehensive flexible expertise, ideally gathered in part through working for a flexible manufacturer or an operator.
  • Knowledge of numerical analysis techniques including finite element analysis and dynamic analysis of subsea structures in Orcaflex, ANSYS or other packages.
  • Ability to oversee and review dynamic structural analysis based design work and interpret results to form sound engineering judgements and recommendations.
  • Track record in the preparation and review of technical documentation including product specifications, RFQs, manufacturing QA records, analytical reports, technical drawings, technical proposals, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Strong leadership and management skills associated with good teamwork.
  • Ability to participate in and lead meetings and presentations to clients.
  • Ability to prepare proposals and support or lead technical sales activity to win work.
  • Willingness to travel to have face-to-face meetings with clients.
  • Proactive and with the ability to adapt to new challenges and opportunities.
